THE WINES

Wine style

Our wines represent the overall character of their immediate surrounding. This implicates the uniqueness of the vines, soil, microclimate, people and vineyard location as well as the specific vintage. This results in individual, fine and multiple-layered (complex) wines, which over the years, alter in their aromatic structure. The goal is to allow them their potential for maturity and longevity.

Most-important criteria in the vineyard

- Careful treatment
- Spontaneous fermentation (with natural wild yeasts)
- Preference for barrels and casks
- Long storage (up to two years) and late bottling, to obtain the optimal maturity and harmony of the various taste and aroma components

INDIVIDUAL VINEYARDS

Schlossberg

Hand-harvested grapes grow on clay/silt soil. The up to 70 % steep slopes are partially located in bowl-shaped areas. The illyric climate with hot days and cool nights is influential. The wines are fruity with soft mineral character and of lively fruity-acidic playfulness.

Wines offered:

- SAUVIGNON BLANC
- MORILLON (styrian name for Chardonnay)
- GELBER MUSKATELLER
- ROTWEIN (red wine cuvee - Blaufränkisch, Blauer Wildbacher, Zweigelt)

- WELSCHRIESLING
- OPOK (white wine cuvee - Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, Welschriesling)
- BLAUER ZWEIGELT

Sgaminegg and Graf (sub vineyard of Schlossberg)

Wines from carefully selected handpicked grapes from southern-faced slopes with specific soils (i.e. “Opok”) and nature-generated cluster reduction. These wines differ from those of Schlossberg vineyard with a fuller structure, more extract/density and pronounced mineral character.

Characteristics of the Graf vineyard:
Opok soil with lime and clay/silt, less harvest (30-40 hl/ha). The influence of the Koralpe doesn´t play as much an influence in the grape aroma. In that they are more protected from it than the Sgaminegg vineyard. These wines are bottled after 12 to 18 months in the cellar.

Wines offered:

- GRAF – SAUVIGNON BLANC
- GRAF – MORILLON (Chardonnay)
- GRAF – BLAUER ZWEIGELT

Characteristics of the Sgaminegg vineyard:
The best vineyard of the estate has pure Opok soil, showing itself with sparse vegetation with less grape clusters (25-30 hl/ha). The winds from the Koralpe play their influence here directly.
The varieties Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon are matured and cuvee-ed in wooden barrels. They are bottled 18-24 months after cellaring, according to vintage.

Wine offered:

- SGAMINEGG (white wine cuvee - Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon)
